Acts 19: 17 & 20
Texts:  “The name of the Lord Jesus was magnified” v.17 (KJV)
“So mightily grew the Word of God and prevailed” v.20 (KJV)

Introduction:
    Pentecost power liberated the Apostles
    Pentecost power energized them
Pentecost power caused the Gospel to spread
    Pentecost power did the miraculous
Two things caught our attention today
Viz: The Name of the Lord (magnified)
The Word of God (grew mightily)
Why Growth and Glory?

There was evidence of salvation in the lives of those who believed the gospel (apostles’) message
Nature of salvation:
1.Salvation necessitates full belief and the receiving of the Holy Spirit
2.Salvation necessitates a decision.  A person either decides to accept Christ or he automatically rejects Him
3.Salvation necessitates the protection and growth of new converts

That is, salvation of men led to great Revival.
- The Word of the Lord was preached
- The extraordinary miracles of God were seen
- The false prophets were exposed
- The fear of God struck men’s hearts (they were gripped with a sense of awe and reverence of God’s Power and demand for righteousness and of their need to walk righteously before God and before me)
- The name of the Lord was honoured
- The conversion of many took place
- The burning of superstitious scrolls (books) and charms took place

Note: (i)  They did not sell the items, they burned them.
They did not want them in the hands of others
(ii)  The great cost of all the items (A drachmas (silver coin) was one day’s wage, so fifty thousand pieces of silver
equal fifty thousand working days (137years)

Conclusion:
See how the name of Jesus was glorified
Read Isaiah 9:6  “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John 12:49  “ For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it.
See how the Power of God’s Word changes people
See Jer. 23:29 "Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?
Ezekiel 37:7 “ So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as
I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.
Rm. 1:16  “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who
believes:  first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
Eph 6:17  “ Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”.
